Since April 2, 2025‐“Trump’s Liberation Day”‐you have been burdened by the tariffs imposed under his America First policy.
As an exporter to the United States, you engaged in prolonged negotiations with President Trump in an attempt to reduce the tariff rate he demanded. After many days of costly discussions, you managed to secure a 15% rate, similar to Japan’s arrangement.
However, such “negotiations” with Trump are not true negotiations. They are, in essence, notifications unilateral dictates. The only real objective in such discussions is to minimize the degree of surrender.

・The U.S. domestic demand consistently exceeds its domestic supply.
・Your domestic supply consistently exceeds your domestic demand.
This imbalance is the foundation of Trump’s bargaining power ? but it can also become your strength.
Turn the Tables
Imagine if all exporters affected by Trump’s tariffs united and declared collectively:
“President Trump, we request the immediate removal of all tariffs imposed upon us.
Should you refuse, we will suspend all exports to the United States for one month.”
Without imports to cover its structural supply shortfall, the U.S. economy would face immediate disruption.
You and your fellow exporters, though burdened with excess supply, could endure such a standoff far more easily than the United States could endure an import freeze.
